Mistaken Identities, Hidden Pasts, Great Music! A Star-Studded Romantic Comedy from 1967

This is a hit song from the  superhit comedy movie Ooty Varai Uravu starring Sivaji Ganesan, K. R. Vijaya, Muthuraman, L. Vijayalakshmi, T.S. Baliah, V.K. Ramasamy, Nagesh, Sachchu and others. The movie had been directed by Sridhar and the music had been composed by MSV. This particular song had been sung by P B Srinivas and L R Easwari. This song features Muthuraman and Vijayalakshmi. The movie’s plot revolves around the hidden past life of Balaiah (Sivaji’s father) and the mixup in the identities of K R Vijaya and Vijayalakshmi. Though Sivaji himself comes to know the actual truth, early in the movie, he manipulates the events such that Balaiah himself admits the truth finally. The movie has brilliant performances by the entire cast and the comedy sequences featuring Balaiah, Nagesh, VKR and Sachchu, ably supported by the leading actors is hilarious and entertaining to say the least. Sachchu had mentioned in an interview how she had had a really hard time shooting for the movie, unable to restrain herself from laughing at Nagesh’s antics during every single shot. Incidentally this movie was the last movie of L Vijayalakshmi who got married to an Agricultural Scientist from Philippines after this movie. She then settled down in the US and pursued her higher studies to become a qualified Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She went on to become the Finance Director of the Virginia Polytechnic University in the US. All the songs in this movie had been hit songs and written by Kannadasan. This movie is a safe bet to watch during a family get together, sure to be enjoyed by the young and the old.

Humorous Song from a Hit Movie. Suspense Thriller Comedy Series from the 1960s!

This is a humorous song from the hit movie Naan starring Jayalalitha, Ravichandran, Muthuraman, Nagesh, Mannorama Manohar and others. Naan is a story about a young rich boy, Raja the only son of Raja Raghunath Devar. Raja celebrates his birthday with his poor friends, which is not acceptable to his father since it affects his status. This arrogant behavior of his father makes Raja to runaway from his house. Few years later when Raja Raghunath wants his son back, three different individuals, R S Manohar, Ravichandran and Nagesh turn up claiming to be the heir! Thiagarajan (Sivaji Ganesan) a millionaire cannot take even the smallest of failures. He meets Sekar (S.S. Rajendran) during a game on the tennis court who lets Sivaji win the game. He takes an immense liking to Sekar, adopts him as his own brother and wants him to stay with him. Unfortunately, both fall in love with the same girl Meena (Saroja Devi). Feeling indebted, Sekar sacrifices his love. But Thiagarajan finds out the truth and jealousy lifts its head. A dark secret from his past keeps haunting him. The complicated sequence of events that follow makes up the rest of the movie. another classic movie with superhit songs (lyrics Kannadasan) and brilliant performances. This is a superhit song from the movie Kudiyiruntha Koyil starring MGR, Rajashree, Jayalalitha, Pandari Bhai, V K Ramasami, Vijayalakshmi and others. This song has been sung by TMS and L R Easwari. Next to P Susheela L R Easwari had sung several songs during that period. The music by MSV for this song seems to be inspired by some Spanish Music. This particular song features MGR and Rajashree. As mentioned in an earlier post related to another song from this movie MGR has played a dual role in this movie. Since there is no difference in make up to differentiate between the two characters, one character has a distinct mannerism (or style) to make it easy for the audience to identify that character!
