Ajith Hits - Vethalaiya Potendi from Billa
This is a hit song from the movie Billa which was a remake of the Rajnikanth starrer of the same name. The original song featured Rajnikanth and Sripriya. this song features Ajith and Nayanthara. Ajith had revealed in an interview he had suggested the idea of remaking such popular movies even before the trend of remaking old movies had started but then the idea had not been accepted by the producers and directors. Once the trend of remaking old movies picked up about two years back Ajith had done this movie and it had gone on to become a huge hit. But when the same team of Ajith and Nayanthara came together again for the remake of Main Hoon Na (Aegan) it failed at the Box Office.
Illayaraja Hits - Solai Pushpangale
This is a super hit song from the movie Ingeyum Oru Gangai from the 1980s. Music by Illayaraja. Illayaraja had ruled the roost in the Tamil Movie Industry during the 80s. This song features Murali and Thara (who is a very popular Kannada actress now). This song had topped the charts of all the Radio programmes during that period for several weeks. The male voice is Gangai Amaran and the female voice is that of P Susheela. Illayaraja's mastery over folk music and his ability to compose subtle melodies based on folk is showcased in this song. Incidentally the movie did not do too well.
Vijay Hits - Vaadaa Maappilla
This a recent hit song of Vijay from the movie Villu directed by Prabhu Deva. The movie also features Nayantara, Vadivelu and others. Though all the the songs in the movie had been a hit the movie has not done well and has put pressure on Vijay to come up with the goods in his next release. The earlier movie Pokkiri which had the same Prabhu Deva and Vijay combination had been a hit which has also been made in Hindi under the name Wanted starring Salman Khan.
Surya Hits - Nenjukkul Peithidum
This is a recent hit song from the movie Vaaranam Aayiram starring Surya, Simran Sameera Reddy, Ramya and others. This movie had Surya doing a double role and has been directed by Gautham Menon. the music for the movie had been compose by Harris Jeyaraj. It was Goutham Menon who had introduced Harris Jeyaraj in his movie Minnale. During this movie they had some misunderstanding and have announced that they will not be working with each other henceforth. This song features Surya and Sameera Reddy. This movie and the songs of the movie seems to have caught the fancy of the young people of today.
Surya Hits - Manam Virumbuthey Unnai
This is a hit song from the movie Nerukku Ner starring Surya, Vijay, Simran and others. This is Surya's debut movie. This movie has been directed by the director Vasanth. When he had asked Ajith to act in this movie Ajith had declined the offer. It should be noted that Ajith's biggest hit during that period Aasai had been directed by Vasanth. So Vasanth decided to bring in Surya (who had been working in a garment factory at that time) as a new comer and as an alternative to Ajith. That is the story of Surya's entry into Tamil movies. Simran is looking like Surya's elder sister in this movie though!
